Monday, February 21, 1994 First Edition Cover Page, Right Side of Paper: ----------------------------------------- No More Electric Bills? Lucedale Inventor Wins Patent for Machine By Nancy Jo Maples Mississippi Press Lucedale Bureau ----------------------------------------- LUCEDALE - For 15 years Joe Newman has been trying to get a U.S. Patent for his revolutionary energy machine and NAFTA has made his dream a reality. The 57-year-old Lucedale inventor plans to produce his technology this year in the United States with distribution to begin between July and September. Newman has tried unsuccessfully since 1979 to secure a U.S. Patent, a bureaucracy battle he says cost him $1.5 million. His machine, however, has been patented in seven other countries, including Mexico. Under the NAFTA agreement between Mexico, Canada, and the U.S., any invention patented in one country is good in the other two. "It's ironic that the same people who tried to stop me from producing this technology have now handed me the opportunity on a silver platter. It's almost like a fairy tale," he said referring to national government leaders. Newman says his device is not a perpetual motion machine, but that it does produce greater external energy out than external energy input. He claims magnetic fields consist of matter in - See Inventor, page 8-A Page 1 Color Photo: "Wave of the Future?" - Lucedale inventor Joe Newman demonstrates his revolutionary energy machine pumping water while a Fluke 87 meter shows negative voltage. Newman has constructed a variety of operational prototypes of his machine weighing from seven pounds to more than 9,000 pounds and he has traveled around the country performing demonstrations by powering water pumps, table saws, lights and even an automobile. He has a standing offer of $10,000 to anyone who bets he can't make a meter hooked to his motor run negative. No one has ever taken the dare. The machine is non-polluting and harmless, according to the inventor. The motor uses voltage, but doesn't produce heat. "It's room temperature. Even when choked it doesn't get hot," he said. Newman has a host of supporters and followers across the nation, many of whom came to believe his theory after reading his book, "The Energy Machine of Joseph Newman," published in 1984, and others who have heard his speeches and watched his demonstrations. The recent patent protection is opening doors for financial backing and just last week some brothers from Iowa traveled to Lucedale to talk with Newman about setting up a distributorship in their state. He plans to by pre-made magnets, wire, bearings and other parts needed for production and set up assembly bases to make the motors. The motors will be delivered to distributorships which will also assume responsibility for parts replacement. The first product will be a homeowner's motor generator with its own power pack that will operate washing machines, dryers, heat and air units and other home appliances. The device is expected to be offered at an initial one-time cost of around $8,000 with the price tag decreasing as production increases. "You'll hook it outside your house just like you do your air conditioning on a concrete platform. It'll come with its own battery pack and you'll totally disconnect with the power brokers," he said. "Eventually new homes will not even be wired. The devices will come with this motor in those washers, dryers, heat pumps and so forth." Newman claims the generator will pay for itself in a 10-year period. He said research at a Mobile library revealed electric bills have increased 500 percent since 1970. He said owners of conventional motors can expect to pay 10 times per year the amount they paid for the motor in energy costs if run 24 hours per day. "This technology is going to set consumers free. Everything that is made is tied to the cost of energy. The consumer's purchasing power will increase because the cost of these materials that are produced using energy will come down as the energy cost is taken away," he said. It is the electrical utilities that Newman blames for his time-consuming and costly struggle to obtain a patent. He calls it a conspiracy. "The power brokers did not want the people of this nation to have the benefit of this invention. They knew people wouldn't put money toward it unless it was patented and the power brokers did not want to lose their stronghold on the people," he said. But Newman visualizes an America without power poles and he has been persistent with his efforts since he made his discovery in 1965 while studying the experiments of English scientist Michael Faraday. "The conclusion was opposite from the facts and that's what caused me to dive into it," Newman said. An accountant and economist through college training, Newman is self- taught in the subjects of physics and chemistry. He says his creative ingenuity is a gift of God. He was working as an accountant at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile in 1962 when he invented plastic bar bells. That year he quit his job to start his bar bell company. Other inventions include orange pickers, pumps, knives and water see- saws. Proceeds from such inventions help finance Newman's research, most of which takes place in a workshop near his home down a mile-long rugged dirt drive a few miles southeast of Lucedale. When he made the energy discovery at age 28 he wrote President Lyndon B. Johnson about it and Newman vowed to dedicate his life to seeing his invention into productivity. Now he's betting on 1994 being the year to see a 29-year-old dream come true. ******************************************** Notes: 1. A videotape describing everything is available for $25.00. 2. A revised edition of Joe Newman's book is scheduled to be released in May 1994. It is available for $59.95. 3. These are the only information and data available that I know of. 4. Joe Newman's mailing address is: Mr. Joe Newman Route 1 - Box 52 Lucedale, MS 39452 5. Newman claims that the tests that the U.S. government performed using a model of his energy device were conducted improperly and were performed not in agreement with his written and verbal instructions, as per the government testing agreement. Please respond with the facts that you may know about this case. We don't care what you think. [I have a PhD in nuclear physics and I can "think" better than you.] We care about absolute facts. ********************************************
